Shri B.K. Chaturvedi,A former IAS officer, Sir rose to become the Cabinet Secretary to the Government of India in his illustrious career spanning five decades. Given his outstanding contribution to the field of Public Administration, Shri. B. K. Chaturvedi was awarded Padma Bhushan by the President of India in 2010. In his distinguished innings, he was also a member of the Planning Commission, the Government of India, and the 13th Finance Commission.
A Master of Physics from Allahabad University, Shri. Chaturvedi completed his higher studies in Public Administration at the University of Manchester. After joining the Civil Services (UP Cadre) he worked in various responsible capacities such as Secretary, Ministries of HRD, Petroleum, and Finance; Executive Director, of the Trade Development Authority and Chairman, of the State Trading Corporation of India. During his tenure, some key economic reforms such as opening up of insurance sector for private companies, deregulation of the oil sector, etc., were undertaken apart from setting up of the first liquefied National Gas Terminal of the country. Sir has represented India globally for negotiations on oil, bilateral trade, and energy issues and has been a member of the UNICEF and UNDP boards.
An erudite scholar, Shri. B.K. Chaturvedi has authored two books and published several papers in national and international journals in the fields of planning, energy, transport, and public administration.
